How to Use the Tracking Link Builder

Settings->Tracking Link Builder or Landing Pages -> Get Tracking URL

The Tracking Link Builder, found by clicking on the Settings tab within your HubSpot portal, is used to track traffic for a specific marketing campaign such as paid search, banner ads, email blasts, newsletters, etc. It will allow you to track the visitors and leads to your website from multiple links (i.e., you have 10 links on your newsletter and you want to see all traffic associated with that campaign) or you can break out traffic to a specific page from one campaign (i.e., you send paid search and organic traffic to the same landing page and you want to know what resulted from your ppc campaign).

How to use the tracking tokens:

Marketing Event Name * - Put in the name that you'd like to see attached to this event in your Sources report, and what day to have it appear in case you're making a URL for a future event.

Landing Page URL * - Enter the URL of the page you want to send people to. This is usually, but not always, a landing page on your site.

Campaign Name * - used to identify a specific product promotion or strategic campaign (product, promo code, or slogan)

Campaign Source - used to identify a search engine, newsletter name, or other source (google, newsletter, linkedin)

If you need further options, there are more variables available if you click on the "More Options" link.

Campaign Medium - used to identify a marketing medium such as email or cost-per-click (cpc, banner, email)

Campaign Term - used for paid search (identify the keywords for the ad, i.e., inbound_marketing)

Campaign Content - used for A/B testing and content-targeted ads (use to differentiate ads that point to the same URL)

* Note: for better optimization be sure to use an "_" or a "-" instead of a blank space.

Tracking Link Builder now includes creation of a marketing event. This event can be scheduled to an earlier or later data depending on when your campaign that you are using the URL starts. If you'd like to access an old link that you've created, your last five tracking URLs created are listed at the very bottom so that you can access them easily.

Tracking Link Builder only requires the campaign name, URL, and a campaign name. This does not mean that it is the only token that you want to create, but it is the only required one. Each option also has examples to help you decide what to include.
